Junior Athletics (8-11 year olds)

The Jarrow and Hebburn Junior Athletics club has been running for well over thirty years. It is for young athletes aged 8 to 11 year old (inclusive). We are based at Monkton Stadium in Jarrow and always welcome new members to our group.

If you are interested in learning how to run (sprints, hurdles and endurance) jump (long, triple, high and pole vault skills) and throw (shot, discus, hammer and javelin) then this is the club for you.

Our sessions last for one hour and aim to give athletes the skills necessary for a fit and healthy lifestyle both in and outside of athletics.

The sessions aim to improve Balance, Co-ordination and Agility along with introducing the FUNdamentals of running, jumping and throwing in a fun setting.

Athletes will have the opportunity to try track and field athletics as well as the popular Sports Hall Athletics. There will be opportunities to compete in events designed for young athletes (Quad Kids events, Minors Cross Country, Harrier League and Sportshall Events), as well as working towards British Athletics recognised badges and certificates.

Our Sessions start with warm up activities and games before splitting into age and ability appropriate groups where you will receive event-specific coaching from one of our experienced coaches. Our sessions are designed around the Athletics 365 programme and incorporate a FUNdamental approach to multi-skills development. We also emphasise learning in a fun, athlete-centred environment.

We have the use of the outside athletics track and field, as well as the indoor sports hall in the event of bad weather.
